Before
Your Surgery
Information
About Your Care
Scheduling Your Procedure
After you and your physician have determined your need for care
at SSP, your physician's office will call us and schedule your procedure.
They will give us the information we need to register you for surgery.
Preoperative Phone
Call
You will receive a phone call from a Registered Nurse (RN) 1-2 days prior
to your surgery depending on the type of procedure scheduled. The nurse
will ask you questions regarding your health history and verify the correct
time of your surgery. You may ask the nurse any questions that you have.
If you do not receive a phone call, you may call (925) 935-6700.
Preparing For Your
Surgery/Procedure
Preparing for your surgery is very important. To reduce the risk of any
complications during your surgery and to insure your comfort, please carefully
follow the instructions below. If you believe it will be difficult for
us to reach you, or you have not heard from us, please call (925) 935-6700.
Medications
Medication instructions for taking or withholding medicines, especially
for heart problems, blood pressure, diabetes and/or seizures should be
reviewed with your physician prior to the day of surgery. Prior to surgery
if you develop a cold, fever, or respiratory problem, notify your surgeon
immediately.
Transportation
Transportation arrangements need to be made prior to the day of your procedure.
You must arrange for someone to drive you home. That person is welcome
to stay at the center. If not, we can contact your ride when you are ready
for discharge. Your ride must be within 10 minutes of the center. You
will not be allowed to drive after receiving a general or local anesthetic
with sedation.
Tours For Pediatric
Patients
To ease the stress of surgery on your child, you may set up a tour of
the surgery center. We recommend you allow your child to become familiar
with the surroundings and equipment before the day of surgery. To set
up a tour, please call (925) 210-8503.
Visitors/Refreshments
For the privacy of patients, an adult may only have one visitor at the
bedside. Pediatric patients may have two visitors at the bedside. Limited
refreshments are available at the surgery center. A vending machine is
also available in the lobby.
